More About A3L

The Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League (A3L) is a 501(c)(3) and North Carolina non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the arts in the Old Fort and surrounding communities, providing education in the arts to the citizens and visitors of Old Fort; ensuring local artist and artisans have opportunities to display their skills and work; and preserving the art of the area for future generations.

A3L runs the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios, a fully juried, members-only Gallery in downtown Old Fort.  This Gallery is one of the largest by size in Western North Carolina, and boasts being home to between 30 and 40 artists and artisans at any given time from across the region.  We offer weekly art, pottery and quilting classes and various monthly workshops, as well as affordable studio space for artists.

A3L has adopted the Old Fort Elementary School.  Members donate supplies and time to support the School's Art Program.

Funded by donations from the community and in one case area businesses and the local Tourism Development Authority, A3L members have painted ten murals in and around the Town of Old Fort, including seven 6 foot by eight foot panels depicting the "Seven Wonders" of Old Fort - seven of the things to see and do in and around the Town.  The large mural pictured is a 36'x24' depiction of Old Fort Artist Nada Carroll's original painting, "A time to Build."  There is also a mural depicting bike riders taking part in the Off Road Assault on Mount Michael (ORAMM). A3L's newest mural depicts the North Carolina Gold Trail.

All of the murals depicting historic events or themes are part of the Appalachian Mural Trail, a virtual trail that runs along the Bill Ridge Parkway from Asheville to the ocean.  Read more at their website www.muraltrail.com.

AGS Studios

Arrowhead Gallery and Studio in Old Fort, North Carolina!

The Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League (A3L), Inc. is a 501(c)(3) and North Carolina non-profit corporation based in Old Fort, NC. Our mission is to promote the arts in Old Fort and surrounding communities. We were established in 2010 and have 45 active artists/artisans members.

The A3L Board of Directors has leased 3600 square feet of space in the Parker Hosiery Building located at 78 Catawba Avenue, in the heart of historic Old Fort, NC, and opened the

ARROWHEAD GALLERY AND STUDIOS

The entrance to the Gallery is approximately 2 minutes from Exit 73 on Interstate I-40.  Eleven hundred (1100) square feet of the space (plus over 1000 square feet of wall space) is dedicated to the Gallery displaying A3L artists/artisans work. Another 1450 square feet is dedicated to individual artist's studios. In addition to Gallery and Studio space, AGS has a large classroom for conducting art classes and workshops.

For artists who display work in the AGS Gallery, there is a small monthly exhibit fee, plus, if the artist chooses to “gallery sit”, the usual 30% commission on sales is reduced to 10%.  How many hours and how often is determined by the number of artists in the Gallery. An artist does not have to have a studio to show in the Gallery or show in the Gallery to have a studio.

Gallery and Studio Space Available

The cost of Studio space is approximately $1.00 per square foot per month. The rental fee includes parking, wireless internet and all utilities, except any phone service that an artist may want.  The cost of floor, wall, or shelf space in the Gallery is $30 per month.

In making a decision, please be aware that the cost for Studio and Gallery space space may be deductible on both State and Federal Income Tax. The Gallery fee may also be deductible. (As with any business or charitable deductions, individuals should consult with their tax adviser).
