More About A3L
The Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League (A3L) is a 501(c)(3) and North Carolina non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the arts in the Old Fort and surrounding communities, providing education in the arts to the citizens and visitors of Old Fort; ensuring local artist and artisans have opportunities to display their skills and work; and preserving the art of the area for future generations.
A3L runs the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios, a fully juried, members-only Gallery in downtown Old Fort. This Gallery is one of the largest by size in Western North Carolina, and boasts being home to between 30 and 40 artists and artisans at any given time from across the region. We offer art, pottery and quilting classes and various monthly workshops, as well as affordable studio space for artists.
A3L has adopted the Old Fort Elementary School. Members donate supplies and time to support the School's Art Program.
Funded by donations from the community, area businesses and the local Tourism Development Authority, A3L members have painted ten murals in and around the Town of Old Fort, including seven 6 foot by eight foot panels depicting the "Seven Wonders" of Old Fort - seven of the things to see and do in and around the Town. The large mural pictured is a 36'x24' depiction of Old Fort Artist Nada Carroll's original painting, "A time to Build." There is also a mural depicting bike riders taking part in the Off Road Assault on Mount Michael (ORAMM). A3L's newest mural depicts the North Carolina Gold Trail.
All of the murals depicting historic events or themes are part of the Appalachian Mural Trail, a virtual trail that runs along the Bill Ridge Parkway from Asheville to the ocean. Read more at their website www.muraltrail.com.
