Fund Raiser in Full Swing
The Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League of Old Fort is pleased to announce that it is holding a silent auction of original works of art and photography this month at the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios, 78C S Catawba Ave, Old Fort. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Meals and Wheels of McDowell County and projects of the Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League a federal and North Carolina nonprofit organization. While Meals on Wheels receives funding for meals that it prepares when the Senior Center is open, it is not funded on holidays such as Thanksgiving. The members of the Arrowhead Artists and Artisans League want to contribute funds to help offset the costs of the box meals that that Senior Center prepares to cover those days.
Members of the League have also undertaken a number of art projects in the Town of Old Fort over the past several years. Their latest project will be to build a large kaleidoscope sculpture in a small pocket park on Railroad Street. This project is being done in partnership with Mill Creek Properties and Dragonfly Studios. They hope that, when completed, this kaleidoscope will be the largest in the southeast and will attract visitors to our area. Funds from the silent auction will go toward this project. In the past the League has painted three large murals and seven large panels that appear throughout the Town. They are now part of the Appalachian Mural Trail, a virtual trail that stretches from Asheville to the eastern coast of North Carolina.
The silent auction will run through June 6, when the winning bidders will be announced.
Hereare just a few of the original works available in the auction. Many of these have opening bids of under $50.00. “Cathedral” by the late Ed Layton. “Daisies”, artist unidentified. “Jersey Shore” by Helen Sullivan. “The Long Walk Home” by artist Lorelle Bacon. “Blue and Yellow” by Marsha Wood. “Lilies” by Marsha Wood (pictured). “Tomato” by Nancy Hoopes.
