Jim Minchey approaches art with the eye of atrained scientist. While pursuingundergraduate and graduate degrees in biology, many evenings were spent doingdetailed drawings in pencil and brushwork with India ink. As a scientist, he loves detail, but as anartist, he enjoys the freedom to interpret and create. This probably comes fromwatching his mother who is an accomplished artist in oils.
His love of nature has continued and is evidentin his work. He is an award winningphotographer and loves to photograph nature and paint it in watercolor. Overthe past several years, he has increased his time spent on art and has studiedwith several watercolor artists in the southeast. Since retiring to Black Mountain, Jim hastaken additional college art courses and workshops.
His work has been accepted into juried showsand competitions. He is represented inthe Asheville area by Sourwood Gallery.
His Black Mountain studio is at the base ofAllen Mountain.
